BEACHWOOD, Ohio -- City Council had before it Monday (Sept. 15) legislation that it believed would be the answer to the concerns some residents have expressed -- that some new homes might be too big for their lots.

After a lengthy discussion, however, the decision was made to explore the topic further, rather than take immediate action.

Part of a larger piece of legislation amending city codes, the amendment under consideration would have capped at 7,000 square feet the size of any new Beachwood home.

Any square footage designed for more than 7,000 would have required, under the amendment, the owner to make a request to the Planning Commission to allow for a variance. The Commission’s recommendation would then be passed on to City Council for a final vote.
