Ohio’s elderly population is about to become test subjects in a controversial experiment with potentially life-altering consequences, something that is raising alarm with the Today in Ohio podcast crew.

Ohio is one of just six states for a pilot program where artificial intelligence – not humans – will make critical decisions about Medicare prior authorizations.

The program, ironically named “WISER” (Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction), will use AI to determine whether seniors receive approval for important medical procedures, including steroid injections for pain management, knee arthroscopy, and treatments for incontinence.
