OSCODA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WILX) - With archery hunting season beginning October 1 and firearms season starting November 15, the Michigan Departments of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and Natural Resources (DNR) are reminding hunters not to eat venison from deer taken within three miles of Clark’s Marsh in Oscoda Township, Iosco County.
A ‘Do Not Eat’ advisory remains in effect due to evidence that deer in this area are more likely to have elevated levels of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), in their liver and muscle tissues.
In addition to deer, a ‘Do Not Eat’ advisory also remains in place for all fish and aquatic or semi-aquatic wildlife taken from Clark’s Marsh.
