LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has released a report showing that recent federal tariffs have contributed to higher food prices, lower agricultural exports, and uncertainty across Michigan’s food and agriculture industry.

This report was created in response to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s executive directive asking state agencies to assess and report the current economic impact of tariffs on Michigan.

According to the findings, tariffs are increasing costs and creating challenges for Michigan’s food and agriculture sector, which adds about $126 billion to the state’s economy each year and supports over 800,000 jobs.
