LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - On Wednesday, September 17, thousands of Michiganders will gather at the State Capitol for the annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes Rally.

Now in its 21st year, the rally gives individuals living with mental illness, substance use disorders, or intellectual and developmental disabilities a platform to share their stories, raise awareness, and remind lawmakers that mental health matters.

The Walk a Mile Rally has played a critical role in reducing stigma, educating policymakers, and spotlighting the urgent, ongoing need for behavioral health funding and services across Michigan.

At its core, the event is about advocating for a behavioral health system that is consistent, accountable, and centered on care.
