LAND O’ LAKES, FLORIDA — A Florida alligator attempted to make a four-month-old puppy its next meal over the weekend.

Fortunately for the pup, who is named Dax, its owner wouldn’t allow it to happen.

The woman, Danie Wright, repeatedly pounded on the reptile until it released the pooch. The five-foot gator relented and eventually released the dog.

According to the 53-year-old Wright, the incident happened while she was walking the dog behind her home in a town that’s approximately 20 miles north of Tampa. She said the gator emerged from a creek that was covered in water moss before it grabbed the dog by its AirTag.

“I heard a squeal, and I got pulled,” Wright told CBS affiliate WTSP. “The alligator had him by his collar and dragged him, and I wasn’t gonna let go.
