Pooley picked grand marshal after getting 9 nominations
Leo Pooley is known around his home at Fellowship Square in Surprise for wearing his signature veterans cap.
People who know him say the 100-year-old likes to share stories of his life and greets people he meets.
Pooley is proud of his service. After all, he served his country 80 years ago in World War II.
The Surprise Veterans, Disability and Human Services Commission recently selected him to be the grand marshal for the city’s next Veterans Day parade on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Commissioner Gwen Maxfield, who was part of a subcommittee that picked Pooley, described him as a “nice, loving, caring man” at the full commission meeting in August.
