SUMMERS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) announced it will conduct aerial treatments to suppress black flies on Wednesday, September 17, weather and water levels permitting.
The treatments will take place along the Greenbrier, New, and Bluestone rivers.
According to the WVDA, black fly suppression uses a biological method that targets black fly larvae in rivers and streams before they become biting adults. The treatment is safe for people, pets, fish, and other aquatic life.
The department conducts the program regularly during warmer months to reduce black fly populations, which can affect outdoor recreation, livestock, and local communities.
