ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)-- The Pennsylvania Game Commission is investigating after a dead osprey was found at an Adams County lake with an alleged bullet wound.

According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission program Operation Game Thief (OGT), the osprey was found within the Lake Meade Community in the Reading and Latimore Townships of Adams County on Tuesday, September 9.

The state game warden's investigation revealed that the animal may have been shot with a small-caliber firearm, per the OGT.

The osprey is a state-threatened species that is protected under Pennsylvania's Game and Wildlife Code, according to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
