COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two Aiken men have been sentenced to federal prison for defrauding an elderly woman in a multi-million-dollar will scheme.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Tuesday that Cody Lee Anderson, 38, of Aiken, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for conspiracy to commit bank fraud.
His co-defendant, Thomas Allen Bateman Jr., 51, also of Aiken, was also sentenced to two years in prison earlier this year.
Officials say evidence obtained in the investigation revealed that sometime during the pandemic, a will was executed by a woman in Aiken that purported to leave the entirety of her estate, which was worth approximately $20 million, to Bateman.
