Decatur Police introduces officer Johnathan Bates as Public Information Officer

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — The Decatur Police Department has introduced Johnathan Bates as the new Public Information Officer for the department.

Officer Bates began his career with the Decatur Police Department in February 2017. Over the years, he has served as a patrol officer, crisis negotiator, and field-training officer.

In his new role, Officer Bates will focus on building strong community connections through effective communication. Decatur Police acknowledged his dedication to community outreach, mentorship, and fostering trust, all things the department says will make him a great addition to the media team.
