The man who died after being found with a head injury Monday near railroad tracks had been shot in the face, police said Tuesday.

The man, 47, was found near tracks at Magnolia and McCausland avenues around 3 a.m. Monday. He had a head injury, police said, and was taken to a hospital where he died.

The St. Louis Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy and determined he was shot in the face. Homicide detectives are handling the case.

The man's name has not been released.
