New Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander has hired Andy Burnham’s former spin doctor as a special adviser . ‌

Ross MacRae will take over after a nine-month stint working in Scottish Labour Anas Sarwar’s team. ‌

Alexander was given the Cabinet post this month after Prime Minister Keir Starmer brutally fired Ian Murray . ‌

The Scottish Secretary will be the key link between Sarwar and the UK Government in the run up to the Holyrood election.

MacRae was head of broadcast for the pro-Union Better Together during the referendum before working for eight years for the Greater Manchester Mayor Burnham.

He took up a strategic comms post for Sarwar earlier this year, but it is his links to Burnham that will likely set tongues wagging. ‌
