Dozens of boxes of M&M’s spilled onto Interstate 80 in Warren County on Monday night when a tractor-trailer struck a truck parked along the side of the highway, officials said.

The tractor-trailer carrying the candy was traveling west near milepost 2.4 in Knowlton at about 10:15 p.m. when it rear-ended the parked vehicle, Knowlton Fire & Rescue Company No. 1 said.

Both box trailers were torn open as a result of the crash. The drivers were checked by emergency workers but declined to be treated.

Photos from the fire and rescue company show hundreds of packages of Peanut M&Ms on the road.

Traffic was temporarily detoured while police investigated and the candy was removed.

Knowlton Fire & Rescue Company said it cleared the scene at about midnight.
