HEDGESVILLE – Members and friends of Hedges Chapel gathered Sunday to mark the church’s 175th anniversary, a milestone that many said reflects not only the building’s endurance but the faith and determination of the people who kept it alive.
The small white chapel along Mountain Lake Road has been a cornerstone of the Hedgesville community since 1850, when the first structure was raised on land donated by local resident John Hedges. While it was first established as a Methodist Church, called the Hedges Stony Lick Church, it is now a non-denominational church welcoming many, primarily from communities surrounding The Woods.
