WASHINGTON — An armed 31-year-old man was shot and killed by police officers responding to a domestic disturbance call in Northwest, D.C. Tuesday afternoon.

Police were first called to the 5100 block of Sherier Place Northwest just before 12:30 p.m. for the report of a shooting, near the Palisades Recreation Center and Playground.

According to Metropolitan Police Department Assistant Chief Andre Wright the incident began around 11 a.m. when officers were called to a domestic disturbance. Responding officers learned that a man had made threats to damage vehicles in the neighborhood. Before police arrived, the man left the area.

Wright said the suspect came back a short time later while officers were interviewing the victims. According to police, the man was armed with two knives.
