RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A 17-year-old student at Spring Valley High School was arrested Tuesday morning after deputies say he brought a utility-style knife onto campus.

According to Richland County deputies, the incident happened on September 16, 2025, around 10 a.m. when the school’s metal detector alerted staff to a knife in the student’s bag. Deputies say school resource officers secured the knife and detained the student without incident.

The 17-year-old was charged as a juvenile with carrying a weapon on school property and was released to the custody of a parent.
