CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) -- A plan to spread more cheer around Charleston during the holiday season is getting a funding boost from the city council after all.
Council members voted last week to allocate additional money in this year's budget to expand and improve festivities throughout the city.
The extra funding comes from money set aside for council members that can be used to cover expenses such as travel. Each councilmember is allocated $4,000 for travel and $2,600 for administrative expenses per year, according to a city spokesperson.
The amount donated by each council member varied, depending on how much they had left over for the year, but it totaled more than $40,000, said city officials.
