NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - North Charleston Police say they have charged a Charleston County man who was found to have a handgun that had been reported stolen.

Dequante Walker-Washington, 23, is charged with possession of a stolen weapon, according to jail records, which state he has since been released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.

Police responded to a Dorchester Road apartment complex shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday to a report of a man allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a stolen pistol, a release states.

The caller told police the man was on his way to the apartment complex.

When police arrived, they found Walker-Washington standing outside the apartment and he told officers he was there to visit his girlfriend who was not answering her phone.
