A man was arrested early Tuesday after he allegedly stole a private ambulance from the emergency room entrance of a hospital in Hialeah, authorities said.

Police said it happened at around 3:21 a.m. at Hialeah Hospital at 651 East 25th Street, when the driver of the ambulance had "briefly entered the hospital to admit a patient."

While the driver was inside, the vehicle was taken, according to an arrest report.

"Through GPS tracking and live camera feeds inside the ambulance, dispatchers were able to provide real-time updates on the vehicle’s location and a description of the suspect," police said.

Officers quickly located the stolen ambulance going southbound on Northwest 27th Avenue, and they stopped the suspect on the on-ramp to State Road 836.
