TAMPA, Fla. — A police officer was shot and killed at a Circle K gas station by an employee who reportedly told detectives that he thought about shooting him on his way to work.

Eduardo Felipe Labrada Machado, 24, is being accused of shooting off-duty Officer David Jewell, 45, in the head multiple times around 4 p.m. on Monday at the station in Ormond-by-the-Sea.

Volusia County Sheriff's deputies said Machado was seen on surveillance video walking out of the store soon after Jewell walked in. Machado was spotted going to his car and getting a jacket before shooting Jewell, according to an initial post by deputies. The gun was later found inside the jacket in the back seat of his car.
