LEONI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WILX) - The Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety responded to a structure fire at approximately 3:12 a.m. Tuesday at 134 Huggins Road in Michigan Center.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames on the east side of a small, single-story home. A camper parked next to the residence was also fully engulfed.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control, but the home sustained significant damage.

The sole occupant, a 31-year-old man, was asleep when the fire broke out. He awoke to the blaze and escaped, calling 911 from a neighbor’s phone.

He was transported to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital with minor smoke inhalation and non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Investigation Team with the Blackman-Leon
