Robert Redford's deep connection to New Mexico "left an indelible mark on its cultural and environmental landscape," Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said Tuesday.
"His legacy endures in every film that honors New Mexico’s stories, in his conservation work that protects our landscapes, and in the tradition of artists who understand that great art serves both beauty and truth," Lujan Grisham said in a statement.
"Robert Redford will be remembered as an artist, activist, and friend to New Mexico," she said about the film icon, who died Tuesday at 89 at his home in Utah. Redford also maintained a home in Santa Fe for decades.
