The barbecue get-together in Wood Village had been underway for hours when the uninvited guest walked through the home’s backyard gate sometime after 10 p.m. on Sept. 8.

Witnesses later told police that the 6-foot-tall man — who was dressed in a black shirt and yellow pants, with a black mask covering his face — walked past several of the people there and asked them to be quiet, court records show.

He was reaching for something in his waistband that looked like it could be a gun, and his eyes landed on an unopened bottle of Sprite on a table, court records say. The man asked if he could have it, and then he opened the bottle and began to drink.
