CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Before the fall equinox arrives on Monday, Charlotte will be cranking up the heat at least one more time.
By the end of this week, summer is making a last-ditch effort with temperatures near 90 degrees. On average, Charlotte’s last 90-degree day happens on Sept. 12, which was last Friday. This week, we’ll come close to pushing past that mark.
The latest 90° day on record? Oct. 13, 1954. And in the past decade, four of our latest 90s have stretched into late September or even October.
We last officially hit 90 on Aug. 18, almost a month ago. If Charlotte fails to reach 90 this week or again in 2025, that would tie for the fourth-earliest last 90-degree day in Charlotte's history.
