ALBERT LEA, Minn. — Albert Lea Community Theatre (ACT) is set to kick off its 60th season with "On Golden Pond" at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center from October 9 to 18.
The play follows Ethel and Norman Thayer as they spend their summer at Golden Pond for the 48th year. The story is about Norman, a nearly 80-year-old retired professor, dealing with heart issues and memory loss but remaining sharp while Ethel, ten years his junior, enjoys the simple joys of life. Their visit from their daughter and her fiancé introduces them to a teenage boy who becomes the grandchild they never had, teaching Norman about modern youth culture.
Directed by Brian Mattson, the cast features Mark Place as Norman and Sue Wiersma as Ethel. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees on
