SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A man was fatally struck by a garbage truck in Escondido early Tuesday morning, Escondido Police confirmed.

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a garbage truck around 5:40 a.m. Tuesday near the Escondido Fire Department on Quince Street, according to the police report. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they are still working to determine his identity.

The police department reports the man was walking on Quince Street by the intersection with Norlak Avenue when he was hit by the garbage truck that was heading south. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.

Police say drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected in this fatal collision and that it remains under investigation.
