BELLEVILLE — A gun was seized at Belleville West High School and a student was in custody Tuesday afternoon, police said.
No known threat was made to other students or to staff members and ''it is believed to be an isolated incident," Belleville police said in a news release.
Police said the department's school resource officer responded after the officer and school staffers were notified by a student that another student possibly had a firearm at the school.
The student in question was "immediately separated" from other students and staff members and a search was conducted, police said. The gun was then located by police and seized.
Police said the incident occurred at about 1:15 p.m.
