Dreamgirls is headed back to Broadway.

On Monday (September 15), producers Sonia Friedman, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, and LaChanze announced that the Tony-winning musical would return to Broadway in Fall 2026 for its first-ever revival four decades after its debut, per PEOPLE.

Dreamgirls first premiered in 1981 at the Imperial Theatre, highlighting a trio of young Black women navigating fame and heartbreak in the music industry in the 1960s. The original Broadway production starred Jennifer Holliday, Loretta Devine, and Sheryl Lee Ralph and snagged six Tony Awards. In 2006, Dreamgirls hit the big screen as a film adaptation starring Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, and Jennifer Hudson, who won a Golden Globe and an Oscar for her performance.
