LORAIN, Ohio (WJW) - Lorain Police Patrolman Brent Payne, who was wounded in the July 23 ambush that claimed the life of Officer Phillip Wagner, is sharing his incredible story of courage and survival with FOX 8 News.

No one on the Lorain Police Department was surprised that the 47-year-old Payne was the first officer to respond to the sneak attack on Wagner by a heavily armed gunman.

"Officers had shots being fired at them and, you know, I was on station at the time because I had just completed an arrest, but when you hear that coming from another officer, you'll run through a brick wall to get to them and it felt like I had to run through several brick walls to get to him because it just felt like it took forever to get on scene," the 14-year veteran said.
