NEW MEXICO (KRQE) — Twenty governors from the Pueblos of New Mexico were joined by lawmakers in Washington on Tuesday, continuing the push for more protections in Chaco Canyon. President Donald Trump is pushing to eliminate a 10-mile buffer zone that currently prohibits oil and gas development around the protected lands.
The governors took a fly over of the canyon to view the damage from drilling before the buffer went into effect. The group of advocates, now in Washington, say the health of Chaco Canyon is important to their heritage and future generations.
