YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -- One of the Midstate's biggest hospitals is about to get bigger and more sophisticated.

On Tuesday, workers at WellSpan York Hospital placed the final beam on a new tower that's under construction.

There will be new surgical rooms with the latest in robotic surgery technology. But also, leaders said, the flexibility to add even newer technology later.

"Medical technology is moving so very quickly," said Alyssa Moyer, president of WellSpan York Hospital. "This building was built to be future-proofed because we don't know what technology is going to lead to in the next five years."

WellSpan said it expects to open the new tower in early 2027.
