FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (PIX11) -- Florham Park is looking to become the latest New Jersey town to pass a local ordinance regulating e-bikes and e-scooters.

The mayor and councilmembers plan to pass the ordinance this Thursday, following a second reading and public comment period. It was first introduced on August 14.

Mayor Mark Taylor said e-bikes and e-scooters have already sent one delivery driver to the hospital and caused $5,000 in damage to a resident’s vehicle. He said they are often operated by teenagers.

“They’re on the road and, unfortunately, they make mistakes that an experienced driver would not make,” said Taylor.

If passed, the ordinance will require riders under 17 to wear helmets. All riders will have to keep to the right side of the road and will not be allowed to ride on
