BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A man who police say tried to persuade two minors to get in a vehicle is a convicted rapist and was charged Tuesday with four felony counts, according to court records and information from the state's sex offender registry.

Jose German Martin, 55, was due in court Tuesday afternoon in Delano.

He's being held on $552,500 bail and is facing two counts of annoying a child after prior convictions and two counts of failing to register as a sex offender as a transient and after leaving another jurisdiction.

On Sept. 10, a man attempted to get two minors to enter a white Mercury Grand Marquis, Delano police said. The minors ran and contacted family.
