COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)-It’s been 26 days since the region saw measurable rainfall—and there’s no sign of relief ahead.
The last time rain made the books was a mere 0.01" on September 6th. August 21st was before that, it was 0.30", and on August 13 and 0.88" earlier in the month. Aside from those, just a few trace amounts have fallen.
Now, with such limited rainfall, drought concerns are growing. Roughly half the region—from Columbus northward—is already at risk.
Conditions are currently classified as abnormally dry across east Alabama and west-central Georgia. And the forecast isn’t helping: temperatures remain above average, and rainfall remains stubbornly below normal as we move deeper into September.
