A coalition of legal and activist groups seeks to intervene in the case of Victor Tony Jones, a death row inmate, arguing the jury was not aware of the abuse he suffered at a state-run reform school.
The Florida Supreme Court is being asked to consider new evidence in a death penalty case that could have implications for others sentenced to death. A diverse group of organizations, including the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the non-profit group Witness to Innocence, has filed a motion to submit an amicus curiae (friend of the court) brief in the case of Victor Tony Jones.
Jones was convicted and sentenced to death in 1993 on two counts of first-degree murder. He was also found guilty of two counts of armed robbery.
