Voters in Watertown are deciding on a $30 million bond that would pay the city of Waterbury money the court says it is owed. This is the result of a longstanding legal battle.

Waterbury, which supplies water and sewage to Watertown, raised their rates in 2018.

Instead of complying with the new rates, Watertown continued to charge residents the lower rate and spent years defending themselves in court. But the court now says Watertown needs to pay up.

This bond vote, if passed, would eventually get the City of Waterbury their over $30 million. But, it would increase water and sewer rates for people in Watertown.

It's a situation many residents say they feel puts them between a rock and a hard place.
