CLEVELAND — The future of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff Department's Downtown Safety Patrol is up in the air as county officials weigh its cost and safety record, while families of people killed in recent deputy pursuits prepare to file a lawsuit.
In late August, Sharday Elder was struck and killed by a suspect fleeing from sheriff's deputies . Tuesday marked the first Cuyahoga County Council Public Safety Committee meeting since her death.
