CLEVELAND — WKYC's annual Clear the Shelters campaign helped more than 3,000 local pets find their forever homes this August.

The 11th edition of Clear the Shelters, which ran from Aug. 1-31, saw 3,055 pets adopted from more than 30 participating Northeast Ohio shelters throughout the month.

This annual pet adoption campaign is spearheaded by NBCUniversal in partnership with local NBC affiliates – like WKYC – and Telemundo stations across the United States and Puerto Rico.

In 2015, Clear the Shelters began with just a single news station in Texas. Since then, the campaign has expanded across the United States, helping more than a million furry friends have found their forever home.
