A video appearing to show a boy waving a burning branch has emerged online after a fire tore through a national park containing precious koala habitat in Queensland .

Emergency services were called to Burleigh Headland on the Gold Coast at about 10.25pm overnight.

A large fire was contained but access to the walking track has been closed to the public this morning.

A video has since emerged of a boy brandishing a burning branch on social media.

Police confirmed they were investigating the incident and urged anybody with information or relevant footage to come forward.
