HENRIETTA, Mo. (KCTV) - Several current and former female inmates of the Ray County Jail have filed a suit claiming it to be a treacherous and hostile place for women.

On Thursday, Sept. 4, documents filed in the U.S. District Court of Western Missouri revealed that a suit has been filed against two former Ray County Commissioners , David Powell and Robert King.

Petitioners in the suit claim that Powell and King neglected unsanitary and unlivable conditions inside the women’s pod that were likened to “cruel and unusual punishment.”

The petitioners claim that in 2021, Powell toured the jail and was part of the process to hire a consulting firm, which told him the jail was a “death trap.”
