(KALB) - On this edition of This Day in History, we are going back 61 years.
On September 16, 1964, the Beatles performed at the City Park Stadium in New Orleans.
A sell-out crowd of nearly 27,00 people, most of them young girls, filled City Park Stadium as part of their first North American tour.
General admission tickets were sold for $5 for the 8 p.m. show.
The mayor of New Orleans at the time declared that day ‘Beatles Day in New Orleans’
Longtime WTIX radio disk-jockey Bob Walker watched through the stadium fence because he said, “I couldn’t afford the $5 ticket. All I saw was Ringo’s back for the entire time.”
A historical marker was dedicated at the stadium on September 16, 1984, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the concert.
