The revelation that the suspected shooter of political activist Charlie Kirk is 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Washington County has led local education leaders to put out statements regarding the impact on the local community.

Kirk was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, Sept. 10, prompting multiple gatherings to honor his memory.

Representatives in Southern Utah said students having a hard time hearing the news have local resources available, if needed.

The Utah Board of Higher Education issued a statement on Friday, confirming that Robinson is a student in the electrical apprenticeship program at Dixie Technical College. He also briefly attended Utah State University for one semester in 2021 and received concurrent enrollment credit through Utah Tec
