BART has released internal train video showing how a normal night turned into chaos for the people on one train as it filled with smoke.
What started out as a routine Friday night commute last month turned into a nightmare scenario for BART train 387. It was roughly 5:15 p.m. on Aug. 29 when train 387 entered the Transbay Tube from the San Francisco side. Miles in, the operator learned that there was a problem with the train ahead, stopped in West Oakland.
Unable to see what was ahead, the train 387 operator decided to push the emergency stop button. Smoke then started streaming into her train through the still-functioning air conditioning system. Passengers quickly became desperate.
