Indiana man meets sister he didn’t know he had for nearly 80 years

After nearly 80 years, an Indiana man finally met the big sister he never knew he had in an emotional moment for both.

Ron Achtertof, a Chesteron, Indiana resident, said he found out through DNA testing that he had a sister after his cousin began searching their family tree on a genealogy website in recent months.

It was during that search that Achtertof discovered that Jillian Tarland, who resides in England, was a sister he never realized he had.

The two met in-person for the first time in recent days, and it was hard for Achtertof to put into words.

“This is..you cannot imagine how you feel,” he said. “I have not seen her in 80 years. And suddenly I am meeting her from England.”
