PHOENIX (AZFamily) — For the first time, we are hearing details about how a prison inmate was able to secure his release from custody decades early. Investigators say the man used forged documents to walk free and now multiple state agencies are trying to figure out how it happened.

David Cramer was sentenced in 2014 to three decades in prison for kidnapping, resisting arrest, and unlawful imprisonment. His earliest release date was 2047. “I wasn’t allowed to visit him until I was 18. So from 7 to 18, I had never hugged him or saw him,” said Paris Cramer, one of his daughters.

But this June, he was released. Investigators say David Cramer’s daughters submitted forged court orders that appeared to dismiss his convictions and authorize his release.
