Syracuse, N.Y. — Two men were shot and badly injured Tuesday night on Syracuse’s South Side.

Just after 8 p.m., a ShotSpotter activation alerted police to seven rounds fired near Bellevue Avenue and Hudson Street, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches. ShotSpotter is a gunshot detection system used by Syracuse police.

At 8:04 p.m., a caller reported someone had been shot in front of J & B Grocery at 409 Bellevue Ave. The man was shot in the chest and lying in the road, dispatchers said.

When officers arrived, they found a second man who had been shot in the stomach and head, according to dispatches.

Both men were taken to Upstate University Hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time.
