A Port Huron man accused of killing one of his own children and seriously wounding two others in a shooting last week was denied bond during his arraignment Tuesday.

Jeffery James Smerer, 44, faces felony charges including open murder, two counts each of assault with intent to murder and child abuse and five counts of felony firearm, according to online records for the 72nd District Court, in Port Huron.

Police said they were called to a home in the 2800 block of Glenview Court around 6:10 a.m. on Sept. 11 after receiving reports that individuals had been shot. One child, later identified by family members as 17-year-old Kayleb Smerer, was pronounced dead and his father was taken into custody.
