A childcare worker has been charged after a four-year-old boy allegedly suffered a head injury inside a centre near Bathurst in NSW.

Police allege the boy was forced onto a bed at Grow Early Education in Kelso by a 24-year-old female staff member last month.

The child is said to have struck the edge of the bed and sustained a two-centimetre laceration to his head.

The woman was arrested at a home in Kelso on Tuesday afternoon and taken to Bathurst Police Station, where she was charged with reckless wounding.

Her employment at the centre was terminated within hours of the alleged incident, which was also reported to the Department of Education.

She has since been granted conditional bail and is due to face Bathurst Local Court on October 29.
