Deputies shot and killed an armed suspect after he barricaded himself inside a Pompano Beach home and attacked a K-9 amid the confrontation, officials said.

The Broward Sheriff's Office got a call about a suspicious person possibly trespassing in a vacant home in the 2300 block of Bay Drive, Sheriff Gregory Tony told reporters.

Patrol units tried to make contact with the suspect, but he ran inside the home and barricaded himself for hours, Tony said.

SWAT units responded and tried to get him to come out, but he refused and made threats of violence, Tony said. At one point, he said, the suspect also stated he wanted to shoot the officers.

Deputies sent in a drone to the home and suspected that he tried to shoot it after hearing gunshots.
